If you come to visit, we will explain the tidbits you need to know. Some preview items, for example:
- Don’t drink the tap water. You can wash, shower and brush teeth from the faucet, but we’ll supply garrafones of purified water for drinking, cooking and coffee.
- We prefer to walk. The ice cream shop is about three-quarter miles from the house, and most other amenities are in view from there.
- Latin American plumbing custom: toilet paper goes in the garbage can next to the stool, not down the pipes. Don’t worry, it’s not as bizarre as it first sounds.
- One appliance is missing -- the automatic dishwasher. The municipal water is hard on them, so we declined to install one. There's an old-school sponge and drying rack that seem to work okay. : )
- The Pacific sends lovely ocean breezes up through the house! We have to be careful about how to prop open doors and windows to avoid slamming and the occasional shattered glass. Ahh, but the breeze is so worthwhile!
- Open doors and windows need some thought before operating the mini-split air conditioners. If you leave the wrong one open, the cold air just escapes into Nayarit. Please pull doors and windows closed to cool the room.
- It's not neglected... but it does tarnish. Up against the salt breezes and high humidity, everything comes to look poorly attended. We are taking care of the beach chairs, umbrellas and the grill -- but to some degree the oxydation and other tarnishing always creeps in.
- Questions? If you visit the house without us present to host, we will put you in touch with the English-speaking property manager in case of questions or glitches.
